Top Ten Great Book Club Picks
The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver: This is one that I read for my own book club, when I used to attend one during my gap year before University. I honestly thought I'd dislike the book immensely, but it has turned out to be one of my all-time favourites! And it definitely sparks a lot of discussion!
The Tenderness of Wolves by Stef Penney: This is another one that I've read as part of a book club, and another that I was surprised by liking. I think this one is great for a book club because it's kind of, what we would call in Britain, a 'marmite' book: You either love it or you hate it. It definitely sparks discussion.
Never Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro: This is without a doubt, in my top three favourite books of all time. I adore it. I think it would be a great read for a book club, again because there is plenty to talk about, and I think most people would enjoy it!
Soulless by Gail Carriger: I'd choose this one because it is quite unique, and it would certainly be something different for the book club that I used to attend (seeing as I was the youngest by a generation). It's a really fun and humorous read, and again, I don't think there would be many people that would dislike it.
blueeyedboy by Joanne Harris: This is another that will definitely spark some discussion! You read to about three quarters of the way through this one and all of a sudden, you don't know what's right and wrong - the whole thing pretty much gets flipped on its head! It's quite a shocking, but thrilling read!
Delirium by Lauren Oliver: Again, because it is so different. I read this back in the Summer and absolutely adored it - as has everyone I know who has read it, so I can't see it failing in a book club situation, really.
Room by Emma Donoghue: This one was a truly moving read, and I know I'm saying this for nearly every single one I'm choosing here, but there is a lot to talk about! I always think that successful book club reads need to be stunning, or provoke serious debate, and this does both, in my opinion!
Shades of Grey by Jasper Fforde: This is a spectacular books by one of my favourite authors. I read Jasper's The Eyre Affair as my first proper adult book when I was about 12 or 13, and I really loved it. I'd had this one pre-ordered for about a month and then read it in a couple of days. I even went and met Jasper and had my copy signed. That was February 2009, so the second in the series has been a long time coming! This one would be great in a book club because it's definitely unique, and it takes you so far away from normality, that there is plenty to talk about!
The Book of Fires by Jane Borodale: This is one of the only Historical Fiction novels I've ever enjoyed. I think it has something to cater for everyone - there is the science of making Fireworks, the family relationships, subtle romance and a troublesome situation for the heroine. What more could you want?
The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson: I love it when I get to mention this book on the blog - it's an amazing read. Again, you have a little bit of everything: mystery, romance, historical settings, contemporary settings and truly great characters. I doubt it could get much better!

I've been meaning to read it for ages, I'm glad to hear you liked it.
I really loved it Allison - although, it's handy to keep a couple of post-it notes in the back so you can write down all the characters - there are A LOT of them!

Delirium is one of those books you must talk about when you finish it, so I completely agree with that one. Great list!
