Musing Mondays #14

This meme is hosted by Should be Reading.

Every week a new 'musing' question is posted by the host for all participants to answer in their own posts.

This week's musing is:
Do you set goals for yourself, while reading? For example, “I want to get this book finished this weekend“, or “I will read __ pages today“, etc. Why, or why not?

Usually, the answer to this is no. Sometimes though, if I'm reading a book for a blog tour, or something similar, then I will obviously have to set myself a reading goal, so that I know the book will be read and reviewed, ready for my tour date. But other than this (and uni books, I guess), I don't set myself goals for a specific book (I do set a goal for the year though - this year it's 50 books in the year, and I've already read 32).

I just don't see where the fun would lie in setting page goals or whatever, and it just seems like it would put way too much pressure on me to get the book read, and I don't like that. Sometimes I want to spend more time with a book, getting to know it much better, rather than rushing through and missing loads of things from it.
Sometimes, yes, I will finish a book really quickly, but that will  be because it's a page-turner, and I just couldn't put it down, not because I wanted to race to finish it.
Occasionally, I will say something like "I'd like to get this finished by the end of the weekend", but it won't be a serious goal, just something I'd like to do, if I have the time etc.
There is no fun in forcing yourself to read, you have to want to do it.

I read for pleasure and don't want to pressure myself. Sometimes just finishing the book is a goal!

Yes, if I'm reading for a blog tour I do the same thing.

I agree with Kwizgiver! Finishing the book is usually my goal. Luckily, I meet it almost every time :)
